I don’t like getting lost anymore than the next person – and this is easier than asking directions!(click on the picture for more details…)
Outdoor Navigation is an all-in-one navigation and trip manager, and makes a perfect companion for the outdoorsy type. It supports street and satellite maps, walking and driving directions, automatic or manual routes, location sharing via SMS, and even has a trip computer for hiking and biking.
Outdoor Navigation does everything that Google Maps does, only better. The app offers driving, walking, biking, and public transit directions via Google Maps, but if you draw your own path it adjusts the course automatically and updates directions on the fly. The app also allows for custom points of interest (POIs,) so finding the best route between a start and end-point with a number of stops along the way is a breeze.
The app also supports beeline directions, for those who prefer to go off-road or take the shortest route. The built-in trip computer will keep track of your distance traveled, elevation, speed, and overall progress to your goal.
For those who enjoy hiking or biking but are concerned with safety, Outdoor Navigation also supports location sharing and status messaging via SMS. The app tags photos with your location automatically so friends can see your location on a map, and it can be programmed to send an SOS message to a number of email address you select with coordinates if you run into trouble.
Outdoor Navigation is free and ad-supported, but the free version comes with only the basic features: navigation, trip computer, manual routing, and POI marking. To unlock the best Outdoor Navigation has to offer, like location sharing, terrain intelligence, and SOS alerts, you’ll can buy each feature separately as an in-app upgrade for $1.49 ($2.99 for terrain) each or spend $4.99 on the pro version, which unlocks everything.
