Nice! Photo tours of some of the best places in the world courtesy of you and Google! Details from Mashable:

Upload your travel photos to Picasa or Panaromio? Those images might now be used in Google photo tours — a new feature that turns dozens of still pics into a photo gallery for more than 15,000 destinations.

Similar images are shown one after the other to give the viewer a better idea of what the area looks like. View the Trevi Fountain up close, see the various views of Half Dome in Yosemite, or check-out the ornate Hagia Sophia in Istanbul, among many other sites. Photos taken by travelers are turned into galleries of some of the world’s most beautiful destinations.

Google launched photo tours in a blog post on Wednesday. The new feature can be accessed through Google Maps. There are two ways to view the Google photo tours: either search for a destination then click on the image in the left-side panel, or browse the map and click on the thumbnail image to view the photo tour.

In March, the company used the Google Street View camera to document the a portion of the Amazon. The team collected more than 50,000 images and linked them together to create panoramic views. The project is similar to Google photo tours — it lets users feel even more connected to destinations through images, and get a better sense of how the landscape looks.

To use this new feature you must have Google Maps with WebGL. You can also check-out Google’s favorite photo tours.
