In this amazing photograph by Gypsy Joyce, we see a number of travellers ascending for balloon rides in Cappadocia, Turkey. This was Joyce’s first ever hot air balloon experience and she captured it beautifully. The area is very popular for balloon rides and costs typically range between 90 – 150 euros. She posted the photo to reddit where it reached the top spot of the front page earlier this month.

Cappadocia lies in eastern Anatolia, in the center of what is now Turkey. The relief consists of a high plateau over 1000 m in altitude that is pierced by volcanic peaks. The boundaries of historical Cappadocia are vague but results in an area approximately 400 km (250 mi) east–west and 250 km (160 mi) north–south. [source]

The area is a popular tourist destination, as it has many areas with unique geological, historic, and cultural features. The most important towns and destinations in Cappadocia are Urgup, Goreme, Ihlara Valley, Selime, Guzelyurt, Uchisar, Avanos and Zelve. Among the underground cities worth seeing are Derinkuyu, Kaymakli, Gaziemir and Ozkanak. The best historic mansions and cave houses for tourist stays are in Urgup, Goreme, Guzelyurt and Uchisar. Air Traffic Control Towers

Air Traffic Control towers are very cool buildings – very distinctive. From Gizmodo we see

10 Graceful Posters Immortalizing the World’s Air Traffic Control Towers

Well, this is a fascinating story. In May, Gizmodo posted a large collection of air traffic control towers—and you, the readers, added many of your own contributions in the comments. Now, the collection has helped inspire a set of beautiful posters devoted to the towers.

According to Heidi Muller, the founder of 08 Left, the set was a huge inspiration for this nice series of posters, each immortalizing a different city’s air traffic control tower. Just check out ten of the 23 posters below. I love it how these blueprint-style drawings evoke the ethereal silhouettes of ATC towers with just a few well-placed lines.

The talented graphic designers of 08 Left–Heidi and husband Ryan–are definitely huge fans of flight and air travel, you should check their other works on their site. For example, their airport posters would go well along with any of the ATC posters below.
